UEFA Champions League group stage

A strong start belied a chastening and ultimately humiliating evening for Tottenham Hotspur as they succumbed to five-time European Cup winners FC Bayern Munich in North London. Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry produced a virtuoso four-goal display on a night when the visitors’ European pedigree and clinical finishing simply proved too much for Spurs. The opening half hour had suggested otherwise, with Heung-min Son finding the net with his third good chance on twelve minutes. Two outstanding finishes from outside the box, from Joshua Kimmich and Robert Lewandowski, saw FC Bayern take a 2-1 lead into half-time, yet there was plenty of cause for optimism among the home support f...

Premier League

The pressure of a difficult week in league and cup was eased by a narrow win over Southampton in which Tottenham Hotspur played for an hour with ten men. After three successive away games - a draw at Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League and then deafeats to Leicester City and Colchester United in the Premier League and League Cup respectively - Spurs returned home looking to restore pride and optimism around the club. Mauricio Pochettino made just one change to the line-up from the impressive 4-0 win over Crystal Palace here two weeks ago, with record signing Tanguy Ndombele replacing Erik Lamela in midfield. Yet the manager's afternoon was made all the more difficult by Serge Aurier's two qu...

Premier League (BT Sport)

Tottenham Hotspur again dropped points from a winning position, on an afternoon marked by a sensational finish from Harry Kane and a contentious VAR decision that shifted the momentum of the match in favour of the hosts. After losing a two-goal lead to draw with Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Spurs allowed Leicester City back into the game here, just as it looked as though they might have secured three points with a second goal midway through the second half. Serge Aurier's ostensible goal, a drilled low finish past Kasper Schmeichel from 15 yards, was cruelly disallowed upon referral to VAR because Heung-min Son was judged offside by the barest of margins in the ...

Champions League (BT Sport)

Tottenham Hotspur relinquished a two-goal lead in Piraeus against a dogged and determined Olympiakos side still looking for its first win in the UEFA Champions League group stage in four years. Mauricio Pochettino fielded a strong team for this first return to continental competition since defeat in last season's final to Liverpool in Madrid. Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli started behind frontman Harry Kane, with Ben Davies replacing Danny Rose at left back. Spurs endured an early fright after 17 minutes when Guerrero struck the post and Brazilian midfielder Guilherme hit the ball into the ground and just over Hugo Lloris's crossbar.
