The pressure of a difficult week in league and cup was eased by a narrow win over Southampton in which Tottenham Hotspur played for an hour with ten men. After three successive away games - a draw at Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League and then deafeats to Leicester City and Colchester United in the Premier League and League Cup respectively - Spurs returned home looking to restore pride and optimism around the club. Mauricio Pochettino made just one change to the line-up from the impressive 4-0 win over Crystal Palace here two weeks ago, with record signing Tanguy Ndombele replacing Erik Lamela in midfield. Yet the manager's afternoon was made all the more difficult by Serge Aurier's two qu...

Tottenham Hotspur again dropped points from a winning position, on an afternoon marked by a sensational finish from Harry Kane and a contentious VAR decision that shifted the momentum of the match in favour of the hosts. After losing a two-goal lead to draw with Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Spurs allowed Leicester City back into the game here, just as it looked as though they might have secured three points with a second goal midway through the second half. Serge Aurier's ostensible goal, a drilled low finish past Kasper Schmeichel from 15 yards, was cruelly disallowed upon referral to VAR because Heung-min Son was judged offside by the barest of margins in the ...

Son Heung-min was the outstanding player in a first-half demolition of Crystal Palace that saw Tottenham Hotspur extend an impressive run of league results against the Eagles. This was the eleventh Spurs win in thirteen Premier League meetings since Palace returned to the division in 2013, and Son again opened the scoring here having claimed the inaugural goal at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium against the same opposition last April. After just ten minutes Toby Alderweireld found the Korean with a direct ball from his own half, with Son ghosting in behind Mamadou Sakho before switching to his left foot and finishing past Gary Cahill and goalkeeper Guaita.

After Davinson Sánchez had endured a to...

A pulsating and at times ill-tempered North London derby saw Arsenal come back from two goals down to share the spoils with arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur. When Harry Kane appeared to be pushed to the ground by Sokratis deep into stoppage time, the Spurs fans behind the goal appealed for one last chance to claim all three points from the penalty spot, but referee Martin Atkinson deemed the England captain to have gone to ground too easily and the VAR saw no grounds to overturn that decision. Kane had already scored from the spot in the first half, putting his side into an unexpected 2-0 lead on 40 minutes. One man who certainly went to ground too easily on that occasion was Granit Xhak...

Tottenham Hotspur succumbed to a Newcastle United side yet to claim its first point this season and which registered its first away points at one of the Premier League's top six teams in thirteen attempts with a shock 1-0 win. On their first visit to the league's newest stadium, Newcastle ensured the continuation of an unlikely winning streak on this particular patch of North London, having won their last three league fixtures at White Hart Lane before relegation in 2016. A first-half goal from Brazilian striker Joelinton, a club record signing from Hoffenheim this summer, proved enough for the Magpies to claim a crucial first win for incoming manager Steve Bruce. An underwhelming and in...
