Son Heung-min was the outstanding player in a first-half demolition of Crystal Palace that saw Tottenham Hotspur extend an impressive run of league results against the Eagles. This was the eleventh Spurs win in thirteen Premier League meetings since Palace returned to the division in 2013, and Son again opened the scoring here having claimed the inaugural goal at the new Tottenham Hotspur stadium against the same opposition last April. After just ten minutes Toby Alderweireld found the Korean with a direct ball from his own half, with Son ghosting in behind Mamadou Sakho before switching to his left foot and finishing past Gary Cahill and goalkeeper Guaita.

After Davinson Sánchez had endured a to...

A pulsating and at times ill-tempered North London derby saw Arsenal come back from two goals down to share the spoils with arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur. When Harry Kane appeared to be pushed to the ground by Sokratis deep into stoppage time, the Spurs fans behind the goal appealed for one last chance to claim all three points from the penalty spot, but referee Martin Atkinson deemed the England captain to have gone to ground too easily and the VAR saw no grounds to overturn that decision. Kane had already scored from the spot in the first half, putting his side into an unexpected 2-0 lead on 40 minutes. One man who certainly went to ground too easily on that occasion was Granit Xhak...

Tottenham Hotspur succumbed to a Newcastle United side yet to claim its first point this season and which registered its first away points at one of the Premier League's top six teams in thirteen attempts with a shock 1-0 win. On their first visit to the league's newest stadium, Newcastle ensured the continuation of an unlikely winning streak on this particular patch of North London, having won their last three league fixtures at White Hart Lane before relegation in 2016. A first-half goal from Brazilian striker Joelinton, a club record signing from Hoffenheim this summer, proved enough for the Magpies to claim a crucial first win for incoming manager Steve Bruce. An underwhelming and in...

Tottenham Hotspur returned to North London with a precious and scarcely deserved point from a largely chastening encounter with reigning champions Manchester City. The travelling support came away singing the praises of the video assistant referee (VAR), introduced to the Premier League for the first time this season, as the hosts were again frustrated by a late decision to reverse on-field events. After losing out to the same opponents in last season's Champions League quarter-final, when Raheem Sterling's stoppage-time goal was disallowed because Sergio Agüero had strayed offside, City again had their celebrations cut abruptly short here. On this occasion it was substitute striker Ga...

A late brace from Harry Kane secured the points for the home side as Tottenham welcomed newly promoted Aston Villa to North London on the opening Saturday of this Premier League season. With the visitors in the lead from the ninth minute of this absorbing contest, Christian Eriksen's introduction from the bench just after the hour mark turned the match on its head. Three goals in the last twenty minutes ensured that a largely frustrating afternoon ended on a high note for Spurs.

Just over two months after the disappointment of a Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in Madrid, Mauricio Pochettino's side took to the field with optimism thanks to an encouraging pre-season programme...
